Chris Myers had a dream: Help small businesses truly grasp what’s happening with their finances, and what they can do about it. The monumental task of combining QuickBooks/Xero integration, a comprehensive KPI dashboard, interactive goal management, beautiful financial reports, and so much more fell to us. Fortunately, we were up to the challenge.
“The guys at Synapse have been in our corner from the very beginning. They’ve shown passion for our project and acted more like co-founders than simple vendors. We couldn’t be happier with the work they’ve produced and the insights they provide on a daily basis.” Chris Myers, Founder & CEO, BodeTree
Collecting and securely storing financial data for hundreds of thousands of small businesses is no small feat. BodeTree needed to talk to the most popular accounting platforms, sync the financial data, and then present it in a meaningful, accessible way, while educating their users every step of the way.
Synapse Studios worked intensively with Chris Myers and his team architecting a scalable, complete financial analytics web application. We designed the application in-house to be as user-friendly as possible, and to take something complicated and deliver something simple and enjoyable.
We dove into documentation from QuickBooks and Xero to integrate with their platforms. We built a dashboard that shows you exactly how your business is doing at a glance, while letting you drill down into detail with your full balance sheet and other KPIs. We delivered a custom report builder that makes it easy to select pages to include in your monthly reports to your bankers, investors, and accountants. We integrated a subscription billing system to allow BodeTree to monetize their system with premium features. And we were there for them when they decided they wanted to pivot and start selling a white labeled solution to banks.
BodeTree closed a $1.4M seed round in March 2013, and received an additional $2M in Series A funding in April 2014. They’ve been covered by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC/MSNBC, TechCrunch, Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur magazine, and many others. They currently help several thousand businesses track their finances, and they’ve integrated with over half a dozen banks to act as their loan application system.
Our role with BodeTree has been more than that of a mere dev shop. We’ve acted as their de facto CTO: from advising them on strategy and suggesting new features to taking calls with banks and other entities to discuss security and scalability. We love being truly involved in the success of our clients, and always looking out for their interests.
